At Filter Designs, we have over 75 years of experience in the filtration industry. We cater to a wide range of industries within this sector, and on this page we focus on our provision of hot gas filters.
What are Hot Gas Filters?
Hot gas filters are used to process gas produced in various industries in order to deal with particulate matter and other pollutants. This is increasingly a concern for many companies who want to reduce such harmful emissions. Hot gas filtration systems help to conserve the environment by eliminating these by-products of industrial processes. Depending on the type, these hot gas filtration systems can involve flue gases at temperatures between 150°C to 500°C. We have designed a ceramic filter up to 850°C.
What Kind of Filters Are Available?
For hot gas filters, we offer PTFE on glass bag filters, ceramic filter elements, and occasionally high temperature cartridge filter elements.
A hot gas filter will involve heat isolation pads, bag filter media and discharge systems suited to the application and temperature.
Ceramic filters offer much higher temperature capabilities, the ceramic elements are far improved and less fragile than those of 15-20 years ago and now come in a variety of diameters and lengths.
A hot gas cartridge filter has more limited temperature capabilities, but is designed to have the advantage of surface area, due to a pleated filter design. An example of cartridge systems has included precious metal production at 180°C .
Clinical waste incineration has made use of both bag and ceramic filters
Call us for a chat over your particular application. Any of the gas constituents, available space, operating temperatures, plant design, energy recovery possibilities can affect and direct the best solution.
What Integral Components Might be Used?
The use of integral components really depends on the specific application, with some systems being of a very complex nature. The filter media certainly has to consider the advised or expected gas constituents.
How are These Systems Designed?
We design our hot gas filtration systems internally. We have the facilities to create a design using state of the art 3D CAD drawing software. These are capable of modelling different filter options quickly using our automated front end program. The CAD software can also undertake stress and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis. You can look at our past projects to see examples of particular applications.

We were contracted to provide 2 small Ceramic filters suitable for a small volume but with a design maximum temperature of 600°C. In addition the filters will be handling a syngas which cannot be mixed with oxygen so an alternative to compressed air would need to be used for the ‘Cleanpulse’ cleaning of the 25 Ceramic element in each of these CPC78 filters. In addition dosing of small amounts of a re-agent is required so the client also opted for a ‘Cleandose’ 25kg bag skid. Find out more about Project CAD below.
